DIRECT & REPORTED SPEECH
เมื่อเราเล่าต่อว่าใครพูดอะไร โดยไม่ได้ยกคำพูดเดิมมาแบบคำต่อคำ ภาษาอังกฤษเรียกว่า Indirect Speech หรือที่ใช้กันมากในตำราเรียนว่า Reported Speech เช่น “I am tired.” → He said that he was tired. จุดสำคัญคืออาจต้องเปลี่ยนสรรพนาม Tense คำบอกเวลา และโครงสร้างประโยคให้เข้ากับมุมมองของผู้เล่า
Direct Speechยกคำพูดเดิมมาโดยตรง และใช้เครื่องหมายคำพูด เช่น
John said, “I am busy.”
John said, “I am busy.”
Reported Speechเล่าความหมายของคำพูด โดยไม่ต้องใช้เครื่องหมายคำพูด เช่น
John said that he was busy.
John said that he was busy.
💡 คำที่ควรแก้จากต้นฉบับ:
คำว่า Indirect สะกดแบบนี้ ไม่ใช่ “Indiret” และประโยค They said, “They are very happy.” ถ้าผู้พูดหมายถึงตัวเอง ควรเป็น They said, “We are very happy.” เมื่อนำมาเล่าต่อจึงเป็น They said that they were very happy.
1. PronounI → he/she, my → his/her, you → I/we/he/she ตามบริบท
2. Tenseถ้า reporting verb เป็นอดีต มักมีการ backshift เช่น am → was, will → would
3. Time / Placetoday → that day, tomorrow → the next day, here → there
4. Sentence TypeStatement, Question, Request และ Command ใช้โครงสร้างต่างกัน
การเปลี่ยน Tense ที่พบบ่อย
Present Simple → Past Simple“I work here.” → He said that he worked there.
Present Continuous → Past Continuous“I am working.” → He said that he was working.
Present Perfect → Past Perfect“I have finished.” → She said that she had finished.
Past Simple → Past Perfect“I bought it.” → She said that she had bought it.
will → would“I will call.” → She said that she would call.
can → could“I can help.” → He said that he could help.
may → might“I may be late.” → She said that she might be late.
must → had toมักเปลี่ยนเมื่อหมายถึงข้อบังคับหรือความจำเป็นในอดีต แต่ไม่ใช่ทุกกรณี
คำบอกเวลาและสถานที่ที่มักเปลี่ยน
now → thenตอนนี้ → ตอนนั้น
today → that dayวันนี้ → วันนั้น
tonight → that nightคืนนี้ → คืนนั้น
tomorrow → the next / following dayพรุ่งนี้ → วันถัดไป
yesterday → the day beforeเมื่อวาน → วันก่อนหน้า
last week → the week beforeสัปดาห์ที่แล้ว → สัปดาห์ก่อนหน้า
next week → the following weekสัปดาห์หน้า → สัปดาห์ถัดไป
here → thereที่นี่ → ที่นั่น
this → thatนี้ → นั้น
these → thoseเหล่านี้ → เหล่านั้น
Say และ Tell ใช้ต่างกันอย่างไร?
say + (that) + clauseHe said that he was busy.
say to + personHe said to me, “I am busy.”
tell + person + (that) + clauseHe told me that he was busy.
ไม่ใช้ tell ลอย ๆไม่พูด “He told that...” เพราะ tell ต้องมีผู้รับข้อความ เช่น told me / told John
Reported Questions: คำถามเมื่อนำมาเล่าต่อ
Yes / No Questionใช้ if / whether
“Are you busy?” → He asked if I was busy.
“Are you busy?” → He asked if I was busy.
Wh-questionเก็บคำถาม Wh- ไว้ แต่เรียงคำแบบประโยคบอกเล่า
“Where do you live?” → She asked where I lived.
“Where do you live?” → She asked where I lived.
ไม่ใช้ do / does / didหลังเปลี่ยนเป็น reported question แล้ว จะไม่คงโครงสร้างคำถามเดิม
ไม่ใส่ ? เสมอไปประโยค Reported Question ทั้งประโยคมักเป็นประโยคบอกเล่า จึงลงท้ายด้วยจุด
คำสั่งและคำขอเมื่อนำมาเล่าต่อ
tell + person + to V1“Open the door.” → He told me to open the door.
ask + person + to V1“Please wait.” → He asked me to wait.
tell + person + not to V1“Don't touch it.” → He told me not to touch it.
advise + person + to V1ใช้กับคำแนะนำ เช่น The doctor advised me to rest.
ไม่จำเป็นต้องเปลี่ยน Tense ทุกครั้ง
ถ้าข้อความยังเป็นจริงในปัจจุบัน เป็นข้อเท็จจริงทั่วไป หรือ reporting verb อยู่ใน Present Tense เราอาจไม่ backshift เช่น The teacher said that the Earth moves around the Sun. และ Mina says that she works in Bangkok. การใช้ reported speech จึงต้องดู “เวลาและความจริงของข้อมูล” ไม่ใช่เปลี่ยน Tense แบบอัตโนมัติทุกประโยค
